Manuscript Types
The following types of manuscripts are considered for peer-reviewed publication in Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics (ACP) and its discussion forum Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics Discussions (ACPD): research articles, review articles, technical notes, commentaries, and special issue introduction or overview articles as detailed below.
- Research Articles report substantial new results and conclusions from scientific investigations of atmospheric properties, and processes within the scope of the journal. Please note that the journal scope is focused on studies with general implications for atmospheric science rather than investigations which are primarily of local interest.
- Review Articles summarise the status of knowledge and outline future directions of research within the scope of the journal. Before preparing and submitting a review article, please contact an editor covering the relevant subject area and an executive editor.
- Technical Notes report new developments, significant advances, or novel aspects of experimental and theoretical methods and techniques which are relevant for scientific investigations within the scope of the journal. The manuscript title must clearly reflect the technical nature of the manuscript and should start with "Technical Note:". For manuscripts focused on the development, intercomparison and validation of measurement instruments and data processing techniques we recommend submission to the EGU interactive open access journal "Atmospheric Measurement Techniques (AMT)
". For manuscripts focused on the development and description of numerical models and model components we recommend submission to the EGU interactive open access journal "Geoscientific Model Development (GMD) ". - Peer-reviewed Commentaries continue the discussion of published papers beyond the limits of immediate interactive discussion. They will usually refer to papers published in ACP, but may refer to papers published in other journals if satisfactory justification is given. They undergo the same process of peer-review, publication and interactive discussion as articles and technical notes, and they are equivalent to the peer-reviewed commentaries in traditional scientific journals. The manuscript title should start with "Commentary on" or "Reply to".
- In addition to the above manuscript types, special issues may include an introduction article or an overview article or both. Introduction articles outline the motivation and background, and overview articles synthesize and summarize the findings of the special issue papers. The manuscript title must clearly reflect the relation to the special issue and should start with "Introduction:" or "Overview:".
- Corrigenda correct errors in preceding papers. The manuscript title is: Corrigendum to "TITLE" published in JOURNAL, VOLUME, PAGES, YEAR. Please note that Corrigenda are only possible for final revised journal papers and not for the corresponding Discussion Paper.
Please also note the following
- Manuscripts should be as concise as possible but not at the expense of scientific accuracy and completeness. To promote scientific conciseness and completeness at the same time, the inclusion of a comprehensive abstract is encouraged. There are no specific page limits and there is no special manuscript category for accelerated publication since the process of peer-review and publication in ACPD and ACP is inherently efficient and rapid.
- Manuscripts have to be written in English, and authors are responsible for correct spelling and grammar. Moreover some General Obligations for Authors have to be considered.
- Manuscripts can be accompanied by supplementary material for the visualisation of results or documentation of details (movies, data sets, etc. - for details see Manuscript Preparation).
The supplementary material shall contain only complementary information but no scientific interpretations or findings/messages that would go beyond the contents of the manuscript. - For more information about the evaluation of manuscripts see: Review Process and MS Evaluation Criteria.
